Rural character
Open land, mature trees, and agricultural landscapes are part of what makes the Red Gate Farm area distinct. Once lost, that character cannot be restored.
Responsible Growth St. Charles is a resident-led effort promoting thoughtful planning and civic engagement. Our current focus is opposing the proposed Claibourne Farm development near historic Red Gate Farm. We believe St. Charles and Kane County deserve thoughtful planning, transparent review, and growth that fits the surrounding community.
This is not opposition to all growth. It is a call for development that respects the land, nearby neighborhoods, infrastructure limits, and the long-term identity of St. Charles.
Open land, mature trees, and agricultural landscapes are part of what makes the Red Gate Farm area distinct. Once lost, that character cannot be restored.
Residents deserve a careful review of road access, emergency response, school routes, pedestrian safety, and traffic impacts on nearby neighborhoods.
Farmland and green space support wildlife, absorb stormwater, and provide environmental value. Any proposal should fully address these impacts.
Current public information describes a proposed residential subdivision and annexation request for land associated with Red Gate Farm near St. Charles. We are asking decision-makers to slow down, listen to residents, and require a plan that better reflects the surrounding area.
The roughly 38-acre proposed site lies on a large portion of historic Red Gate Farm in St. Charles. Use the map below to see how it relates to nearby neighborhoods, roads, and open space.

We are gathering community support, sharing information, and encouraging residents to participate constructively in the public process.
Short answers to the questions we hear most often from neighbors.
No. We support thoughtful growth that fits the surrounding community, respects infrastructure limits, and is reviewed transparently. Our concern with this specific proposal is its scale and density relative to the rural Red Gate Farm area, and the open questions about traffic, drainage, and compatibility.
A plan that reduces density to better match the surrounding area, preserves mature trees and natural buffers, includes full traffic and stormwater studies, and gives residents meaningful time to review and comment before final votes.
This site is run by local residents organized as Responsible Growth St. Charles. We are not a political party or a developer. We pay for hosting ourselves.
Write or speak in your own words, mention the specific street or neighborhood you live in, and name one or two concrete concerns. Personal, specific, respectful comments from real residents carry the most weight with elected officials.
Yes. Written comments submitted in advance are part of the public record. Email your alderperson and the Plan Commission, sign the petition, and forward this site to neighbors.
